Introduction

The bathroom is one of the most demanding areas in a home. Constant humidity, temperature fluctuations, direct water in the shower area – all put pressure on finishing materials.

In recent years, microcement has become a modern alternative to tiles and porcelain tiles. But the essential question remains:

Is microcement safe for the bathroom?

The answer depends on the system used and the correct application. In this article we analyze the technical solution, with reference to the professional systems used in Romania through the official Cemher representative office.

Is microcement waterproof?

Microcement itself is a mineral material. The waterproofing does not come only from the decorative layer, but from:

  • complete application system
  • waterproof microcement in bulk
  • protective layer (professional polyurethane sealant)
  • correct preparation of the support

A well-applied professional system becomes:

water resistant

suitable for walk-in shower

safe for floors and walls

easy to maintain

Important: Not every microcement on the market is suitable for the bathroom. The difference is made by the technical system and the quality of the final protective layer.
